Customer Issues:

  • Improper Lighting for Track Events
  • Old Lighting Technologies
  • Outdated and Cumbersome Lighting Controls
  • Inadequate Electrical System
  • Obtrusive Overhead Wiring
  • Utility Transformer Issues

Project Objective:

Renovate the existing lighting at the football/track facility. The existing facility had overhead wiring, inefficient lighting, inadequate lighting for track events, and numerous antiquated controls for operation. The utility transformer feeding the lighting was also in need of replacement. Our first priority was to provide proper lighting for all football and track events that could be controlled through the schools existing building automation system. Secondarily, our objective was to provide underground wiring and provide an adequate electrical system to handle the required load.

Results:

The result was a beautifully renovated facility with concrete poles, new GE Sports Lighting fixture package, and Cutler-Hammer electrical panel with solenoid-operated breakers. The new panel allowed us to tie the lighting system into the existing building automation system for the school. Upon completion, lighting control was merely a touch of a button, instead of the multitude of disconnects and switches that had existed previously. In addition to ease, the new controls allowed for different settings, such as football practice, football game, and track meet settings for dusk and dark. We also replaced three existing utility transformers with one pad-mount unit to feed part of the school, the fieldhouse, the concession building, and the field lighting.
